Bright Corsages

Yesterday I spent sometime at the Flower Basket with my friend Macie making corsages. We had a great time we talked, laughed, did flowers and talked a little trash. I love days like that.

Out of Season

I went to the flower shop today to price out some weddings I have been working on and get some flowers for the Salon. For some reason it didn't seem right when I walked into the cooler and found three buckets of Tulips. Don't get me wrong I love Tulips but the weather is starting to cool down a bit and I am getting so excited about the opportunity to wear scarves and jackets. For some reason it just didn't seem right.......but I am OK with that.

Super Roses

I am a huge fan of English Tea Roses, but to be honest they are very fragile. They smell amazing but bruise very easily.  So when it comes to the real work horse of the floral industry you can't look past the commercial rose. It comes in so many amazing shades and this one is one of my favorites. It is called Super Green. Isn't that so much fun!! Regular green rose by day "Super Green" by night. Love it.

Flowers for Suzi

I put these flowers together the other day, they are for a girl who just lost her brother to cancer. They where sent by her book club. I hope she finds comfort in the flowers and especially in the love and support of her friends that care so much for her.

The Flower to Die For

I love peonies. In fact they are my favorite flower of all time! I love everything about them. The smell, color, and petal count. I like to consider myself a non-girly girl but I think I am a little bit in denial because peonies are a very girly flower. oh, and the fact I am totally in love with BBC Victorian dramas. I guess that qualifies me as a semi-official girly girl. Anyhow this gorgeous bloom sprang forth in my front yard. I planted it last spring and this spring it has three huge blossoms. One in which I put beside my bed so I could smell it when I first wake up in the morning. I have decided that my life would be complete if when I die peonies where used as my funeral flower. I know you really don't get to pick these kind of things, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that I die in the spring : )

Baby Shower

I did some fun flowers for a baby shower last week. When the host of the shower asked me to do the flowers I wasn't expecting this color scheme, but the mother to be is Latin and she wanted something with a bit more flair than pink flowers.

Salon Flowers

We own a hair salon called Shep Studio (My husband is an amazing hair stylist). I have a couple of jobs around the salon. One of those jobs, is the salon florist. So for over nine years I have gone to the flower shop once a week to get flowers for the salon. This is where my love of flowers started. Sometimes it seems like a chore but other days it has been my creative outlet. This is something I did on a more creative day. I think the color really pops in the mostly white space.

Woodland Christmas

The closer it gets to Christmas the harder it is to find Christmas looking flowers. The old law of supply and demand can be a hurtful one at times. I had some definite ideas of how I wanted these arrangements to look, but because of the lack of red and green flowers, I had to make do with what was available at the flower shop. Maybe next year I will do some pre-ordering!

Christmas Flowers

This arrangement was a little bit more formal than I usually do, but I still love the way it turned out.

Happy Unbirthday!

I wish I could say this was for my Birthday, because Birthdays are so much fun (except the whole getting older part). It's was actually for a friend of a friends Birthday, and it was a delight to do. The thing that you can't tell from this picture is how amazing it smelled. I used eucalyptus pod, and they have a wonderful refreshing scent. Happy Unbirthday!

New Blog

I thought I would start a new blog, for my little business Simply Stems. I love to do flowers and this blog will be the journal of my journey........
What we have here are bouquets of some of the flowers we found in my back yard this summer. My oldest daughter did one and I did the other. The vase on the right is one of my most prized possessions. I happened to have met the potter who made it on a trip to New York. I just love it!!
